The Crane Family

I’ve observed three pairs of sandhill cranes in the Belgrade Lakes area. These two adults are trailed by a juvenile in a marsh on the northern shore of Great Pond.

Egg-laying

I recently spent a few days at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, where I watched these female snapping turtles laying their eggs in holes that they dig in sandy spots away from the water. I lied on my stomach to get an eye-to-eye perspective.
