After a cool and rainy spring and early summer one year, one July morning I suggested to my family that we go somewhere “warm and dry.” When I suggested Death Valley, my wife asked, “Why would anyone in their right mind go to one of the hottest and driest places on the planet at the hottest time of the year?” Why not? I spent a week exploring Death Valley and the surrounding mountains in 120+ degree heat, loving every minute of it.
