A few years ago I spent a few days at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge. I first spotted this bear as it made its way across one of the refuge’s streams and climbed onto the bank on the opposite side. I got this shot when it moved to the adjacent field.

It’s been a busy year. Hundreds of miles of hiking. Great adventures on the Maine coast and in the Maine woods. I made eight trips to Acadia, seven trips to Baxter, three to Grafton Notch, and probably dozens to the nearby Kennebec Highlands. It’s also been a year since I started this blog to share the deep sense of awe that I always feel when I’m on a trail or on the water somewhere — usually right here in Maine.
