Step Falls in Newry, Maine on a warm October afternoon.

Angel Falls is one of the highest waterfalls in Maine. The hike to the falls is just over a mile, with a few crossings of Mountain Brook. Finding the trail head might be the hardest part. On my first trip there years ago, the parking area was marked with an old t-shirt and you had to walk down a short dirt road to find the trail. Maine staying wild or what?
Here are directions to the trail head and a trail description. Definitely worth the trip!

Old Speck, Maine’s fourth highest mountain, is in Grafton Notch State Park. A fire tower on the 4170-foot tree-covered summit provides 360 degree views of Maine’s Mahoosuc Range.

Sometimes a camera can become a paint brush. I created this impressionistic view of lupines by using an exceptionally slow shutter speed and tilting my camera.

The Cataracts trail accesses numerous pools and drops along Frye Brook in Maine’s Mahoosuc Mountains region.

Table Rock on Baldpate Mountain in Grafton Notch provides great views of the notch. Old Speck, Maine’s fourth highest mountain, is immediately across the notch.

Tumbledown Mountain in Weld, Maine is a rare gem. Not only does it have a variety of trails, but it has a pond.

Step Falls, just south of Grafton Notch in Newry, Maine, is a series of waterfalls on Wight Brook. This year’s low rainfall reduced the flow over the falls, making more of the moss visible than I’ve ever seen. A rain shower an hour or so before provided the final touch: more saturated color of the moss and fall foliage.
